Nairobi National Park gives travellers the unusual chance to begin or end a Kenya safari within easy reach of the capital. Open savannah, riverine woodland and seasonal waterholes support a surprising range of wildlife, while the Nairobi skyline creates one of Africa's most distinctive safari settings.

The park is one of Kenya's most accessible places for rhino viewing, with both black and white rhinos present. Lions are regularly seen, while buffalo, giraffe and many antelope species occur across the grasslands. Leopard and cheetah are much less predictable, and elephants are absent. The park is also an excellent birding destination, particularly for travellers with limited time in Nairobi.

Planning your visit

June to October usually provides dry conditions and straightforward wildlife viewing, although the park can be visited throughout the year. Early morning departures are often rewarding for activity, cooler temperatures and softer light.
