Amboseli National Park is one of the most recognizable safari destinations in Kenya. Its open plains, marshes, acacia woodland and seasonal lake basin create excellent wildlife viewing, while Mount Kilimanjaro often rises beyond the southern horizon. Early morning and late afternoon are especially rewarding for photography when clear conditions reveal the mountain above the park.

Amboseli is particularly famous for elephants. Large family groups move between feeding areas and the permanent swamps, giving visitors excellent opportunities to observe natural behaviour at close range from established safari roads. Buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, gazelles and giraffes are common, while lion and cheetah sightings are possible. The wetlands also attract abundant birdlife, including waterbirds and seasonal flamingos when conditions are suitable.

Planning your visit

June to October and January to February are generally reliable periods for wildlife viewing and road conditions. Dust can increase during dry weather, while the wetter months transform the landscape and can be excellent for birding and greener photography.
